The road to Vrsic pass was amazing. All surrounded by great mountains covered in green, nature at it’s glory.
We arrived to the small town, Kranjska Gora, which is where you start driving the Vrsic pass. We didn’t arrived on season so we didn’t get a chance to try the roller coaster (and face our fear) so we headed straight to the road. We didn’t realize the first stop will be so close. It was an amazing natural lake, colored in blue and green named Yasna Lake. It was magical. We had lots of stops in this pass because the view was absolutely beautiful. The thing about this driving attraction, is the number of curves you need to go. I don’t recall exactly but it was around 60 curves and they are all mentioned on the road so you won’t fill desperate while driving ha ha. I personally didn’t want this road to end.
We decided to spend the night at Kobarid, a small town with lots of history. We actually picked a guesthouse which was 20 min drive from Kobarid so it forced us to stay there until dinner. After hiking a small trek in Kozjak waterfall, and bumped into a snake (!), we spend our time exploring the city, enjoying a great ice cream and drinking ice coffee. Then we decided to go to the WWI museum which was fascinating.
Dinner was not so good and the night we spend at the guesthouse was not our best either. The village was too quite and isolated and our room was just a step away from the local cemetery which made looking at the window extremely creepy at night.
We happily left the village in the morning and decided that this night we will indulge ourselves. We chose a fine hotel in Postojna which is very close to the caves we were planning to visit. Before we headed to Postojna, we did a nice trek in Tolmin national park which was so beautiful.
The Postjona caves were quite an experience. It was very cold inside and the way in is by train. Very touristic but it was pretty amazing. The town was small and nice, we enjoyed a great chef dinner at a local restaurant and an amazing breakfast at the hotel.
The ride from Slovenia to Croatia was very long. We stoped at Opatija, which was a nice city by the sea. Then we continued driving towards Salunj. The town was small and nice, our hosts welcomed us with cherry cocktail and nuts from the tree. At the evening, we went to eat dinner in Rastuk, a beautiful town with waterfalls coming out of the houses. It was an amazing thing to see.
The next day we woke up early to get to Plitvice Lakes. The sight was beautiful. Lots of lakes and waterfalls, clear as crystal. We spend some time at the park and then drove to Zagreb to return our car.
Zagreb turned out to be an amazing, full of life city and extremely cheap. The night we spend was real fun. We started with a dinner at a very good restaurant. Then we found some great ice cream and continued our night walk in the city. The night life is very good in Zagreb, with lots of bars and street music. It was hard to choose a place for a beer.
The morning at Zagreb was great too. We found a good coffee house with healthy breakfast (which was needed in this trip). We walked in the city, a lot. We went to the local artists market which was very nice. We really enjoyed the local food market, which was very special. We had lots of time until our flight and it was a great way to spend it in Zagreb.
This 10 days was so amazing. We got to see nature at it’s best, enjoy small towns and bigger cities, drive to unique places and meet people from different cultures. I would recommend this trip to anyone and I hop we will come back soon for round two.
